The bioeconomy contributed to around 5 - 6 % of Germany's gross value added in 2017. Around half of this was generated in the manufacturing sector (2017). The food, feed and beverage industry make up the largest share of the manufacturing sector (47 – 56 %) [1].

While the structural composition of the bioeconomy remained essentially unchanged between 2010 and 2017, the price-adjusted value added of the bioeconomy increased slightly (by circa 6%) over the same time period. That said, it remained significantly below the increase in Germany's price-adjusted value added (of 14%) [1].
